Description
Antique Burmese (Mandalay or Konbbaung Period) lacquerware figural temple vessel used as an offering bowl (Hsun-ok) or betel nut box in the shape of a sacred goose. Bird is also known as a Hamsa or Hintha. Piece is made from carved wood, inlaid with small mosaic mirrored tiles, and finished with bright red, dark red, and black lacquer paint.Dimensions: Height 23" x Width 12" x Depth 15".
Weight: 6 lbs. 3.2 ounces.
Condition: Very good antique condition. Wear to red lacquer exposing mirrored glass mosaic inlay. Rust to metal. Wear to embedded glass rhinestones. Minor bends to metal. Cracking to paint or lacquer. Small chip to left eyebrow of bird. Antique repair to base underneath red lacquer. Split or crack to both sides of bowl. Dust and soiling throughout consistent with age. Piece is very old and distressed and being offered as found.
